Competitive Categories

Unassisted Constant Ballast:
The Freediver must reach the goal depth and ascend under his/her own power without using the Reference-Line or any device for propulsion. The Freediver is only allowed to intentionally touch the line at the turning point upon reaching the Goal-Depth and before initiating the ascent. Equipment Used: Vision Device, Snorkel, Ballast System, and Exposure Suit. (No Propulsion Devices are allowed).

Line Assisted Constant Ballast:
The Freediver must reach the Goal-Depth and ascend pulling him/herself along the Reference-Line and must remain in contact with the line throughout the duration of the Dive. Equipment Used: Vision Device, Snorkel, Ballast System, and Exposure Suit. (No Propulsion Devices are allowed)

Equipment Assisted Constant Ballast:
The Freediver must reach the goal depth and ascend under his/her own power and using only a Propulsion Device. The Reference-Line can not be used for propulsion. The freediver can only touch the line at the point where he/she must turn around and start the ascent. Equipment Used: Vision Device, Snorkel, Ballast System, Propulsion Device, and Exposure Suit…The picture below shows the line assisted category.

Limited Variable Ballast:
The Freediver must reach the goal depth by using a Guided Ballast Device for the descent. The Freediver must perform the ascent under his/her own power using the Propulsion Technique or techniques of choice. Applicable Equipment: Vision Device, Snorkel, Ballast System, Propulsion Device, and Exposure Suit.

Unlimited Variable Ballast:
The Freediver must reach the goal depth by using a Guided Ballast Device for the descent. The Freediver must perform the ascent with the aid of a Guided Floatation Device. Applicable Equipment: Vision Device, Snorkel, Ballast System, Propulsion Device, and Exposure Suit.
